The sight of a freshly glazed doughnut can feel like falling in love…

And coming home to a pack of unopened cookies can feel like the adult version of Christmas morning…

There’s something about sugar that hooks us and keeps reeling us in again and again. Whether we like it or not sugar has a major hold on us.

Guys, don’t get me wrong. I too enjoy a wonderful sweet treat, a decadent dessert, chocolate cake so moist, it just melts in your mouth.

Warm white chocolate macadamia nut cookies or even better a chocolate lava cake that spews chocolate sauce as soon as your fork meets it. A Heavenly treat.

Whether you’re health-conscious or not. We all have the same amazing feelings when eating delicious food. But it’s about gaining control of these feelings and not letting those feelings control you.

Finding that middle ground of moderation and structure is what make sweet treats still enjoyable.

But why do some feel an unbridled addiction to sugar…

Okay, Let’s Get to The Culprit…

If you’re reading this it’s highly likely you understand, and have first-hand experience, of the allure of sugar.

Sugar isn’t just confectionary, it’s compulsion; there is no such thing as stopping after “just one.” I mean, if one is good, more is better.

At least that’s what it feels like with the sweet stuff.

We are given many reasons for our sugar cravings: pleasure-seeking brain circuits, intestinal parasites, mineral deficiencies, malnutrition, habitual behavior, unbalanced diets, too much salt, buried emotional issues, lack of sleep, stress…. And most commonly, a lack of discipline.

We are not at a loss for reasons for our addiction to sugar, yet just knowing isn’t enough if we haven’t changed our habits. If knowing was enough we would all be winning gold medals and gold stars in every area of our life. If anything, knowing just makes it feel worse… we know better so why aren’t we doing better?

Knowing becomes just another reason for us to feel bad about ourselves.

The next step to knowing is to try and do something about it. We take matters into our own hands and attempt to turn our sugar-loving switch from on to off.

This is not a painless process, and just when we feel we’re making ground something happens to throw us off, and we’re on a mission to hunt down any sugar we can find and back at the start.

When we decide to target our sugar dependency, we attack the sugar itself, we clear the pantry, empty the house of all products and declare sugar the enemy.

When we create an action plan like this, it’s great. We’re a few steps in the right direction. We must address what’s really happening.

The key: target the true problem, not the side effect of the problem. And sugar cravings are the side effect, they’re the symptom of the real problem, and treating symptoms never makes the problem resolve.

The only way to create true, long- standing change is to address the root cause…. Otherwise, you’re just wasting your time and prepping yourself for another future sugar-binge.

Which could be mineral deficiencies, insulin resistance or even a lack of sufficient sleep.

Or just plain unhealthy eating habits, shopping choices and lifelong patterns that need to be addressed. Finding the reasons for emotional eating, the reasons for unhappiness that only sweet food can silence.

We have to start using exercise and daily activities to find those feel good emotions by released endorphins that give you the same high and elevated feeling that sugars and sweet foods will do.

Sugar is the cause of most inflammation in the body as well as sodium.

But sugar is what feeds cancers.

When they test for cancer they perform a pet scan test or other diagnostic tests, they send sugar into the body and where the sugar lands or is attracted to shows malignant cells.

So, let’s stop and think about that.

How alarming is it that sugar itself is used to identify any present cancer cells…because cancer loves sugar.

It’s so disheartening to me when I go to visit my cancer patients that are actively undergoing chemotherapy and their recliner is surrounded by bags and bags of candy.

Even at a life-defining time like that, the sugar addiction still does not end.

Sugar can be a very dangerous thing that should be handled accordingly.

Diabetes Type 2 is an awful disease that sometimes develops due to a consistently high sugar diet. A disease that leaves you predispositioned for many other diseases and added fragility to your immune system. Not to mention the chances of amputations, due to a lack of proper diabetes management.

The fundamental cause of diabetes differs by type. Regardless of what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to excessive sugar in your bloodstream. Too much sugar in your blood can be the precursor to serious health difficulties.

Diabetes mellitus pertains to a set of diseases that impact how your body uses blood sugar (glucose). Glucose is critical to your health because it’s an essential source of energy for the cells that your muscles and tissues are comprised of. It’s also your brain’s primary source of fuel.

Here are several signs of  both types of Diabetes both  1 & 2:

  1. Unexplained weight loss
  2. Irritability
  3.  Fatigue
  4. frequent infections throughout the body
  5. frequent urination
  6. frequent infections such as gums, skin or even vaginal infections
  7. extreme hunger
  8. increased thirst
  9. slow healing wounds or sores
  10. blurred vision

Type 1 diabetes can present and occur at any age, but it usually happens during childhood or adolescence. The most common type of diabetes is Type 2, which can develop at any age, although it mostly occurs in people over the age of 40

Be mindful of these signs and symptoms especially if you have an extraordinarily sweet tooth. If you’re feeling any of these symptoms you may be in fact be prediabetic. Speak to your doctor about any concerns and request annual blood work which will assess fasted blood sugar levels…

Could it also be leptin resistance?

We may have blamed everything else under the sun for our inability to stop reaching for the next cookie… everything, but mineral deficiency or even leptin resistance. If you want to see real movement and change you’ll need to target these possible culprits.

It will change everything you thought you knew about sugar cravings.

Heres a supplement that  focuses on leptin resistance or deficits  Which can also be a reason for sugar addiction. Here’s the link to a video that explains it all. These deficits will also produce troublesome symptoms. Not only increased hunger but it creates sugar cravings! That’s a recipe for disaster! Not only will you be hungry, but you’ll be craving after the worst foods imaginable…

Either way, finding the source of your sugar cravings whether its medical reasons or just a lack of willpower and healthy choices. You have to take the first step to overcome this extremely unhealthy habit.
